ABOUT US*

Backspace is a non-profit organisation based in the Netherlands that organises events and provides and maintains a network of promoters, audio-/visual-artists, producers, event-organisation, dj's, vj's, sound systems, labels, decorists, distributors, performers and all other good and creative souls that are somehow connected to the world of intelligent electronic music and related (audio-/visual) arts.

With 'intelligent electronic music' we mean the musical genres of the alternative and experimental modern electronics as opposed to the more commercial or uninspiring forms of electronic music.We focus on the genres of the experimental and electro-acoustics, IDM, tekno, breakcore, breaks, breakbeats, dubstep, grime, psy-trance, Drum&Bass, electro, trip hop, more downtempo and ambient soundworks and (in fusion with) live-/world-/classical/jazz-musicians, bearing in mind the world's old and various ways of making music.

The purpose of our network is to share resources, to help promote all good works of electronic music and art, and to bring together the best of people to work on even better projects. We do all this with an aim of realising a healthy and creative environment for the experience and development of electronic music, related arts and for sound- and partyculture in general.

Ideally speaking, Backspace is a network of people who are in this world of music for the good of everyone and all around them. People that work together to help promote each others work and create those gatherings, parties and festivals that help to bring people in contact with the important form of truth that art holds for us and might even contribute to human and planetary evolution in the process.

We are involved in various projects and we're always looking for more collaborators, performers/artists, etc. so mail us if you'd like to help or when you'd like to be informed about our current progress.

Right now our main activities include:

*Promotion:

-- We promote music and other forms of art at our own events.

-- We Promote events of other organisations we like. For instance by email and flyer promotion, in exchange for tickets for members on our community sites.
If you would like to be updated on these events and get free tickets, please become a member of our main dutch community site page on Hyves.

-- We promote artists by booking them at parties and events, and by introducing/linking them to various promoters, labels, venue's and festivals.

-- On the website and the dutch community hyve we give people room to promote themselves and drop links to their work. We will have an artist profile space here soon, and we will do articles in a "news" section on the website.

*Providing Resources:

-- On our website we aim to give an overview of professionals working in our field of interesting electronics, so that people know who's doing what and where.

-- Especially in and around the Netherlands and help with production in all possible ways.

*Networking/Seminars/Workshops:

-- We try to organise many small get togethers and things like workshops and seminars in music production, in order to create an optimised space for exchanging idea's or artwork with one another, 'well organized', but also in the means of small parties, using venues, squats, houses, galleries/cafe's.

We aim to extend these activities in the near future to the following:

*Professional booking agency for the more intelligent of underground electronic music, when our promotion activities reach the required standard and time allows it.

*Audio Production:
-- Help with the mastering/production of music of artists in our network.

*Distribution/ Sales:
-- Creating a distribution centre for the music of people in our network.
-- Selling professional live recordings of our artists.
